Based in Litton, Peak MedTek develops agetech products to help to reduce accidental falls in frail and elderly people. Their primary product is Bide which is a standalone device which sits beside the user’s bed. Bide detects when the user is getting ready to get out of bed and sends a message to remind them to move off more safely. This simple action, alongside the device lighting up and providing some background illumination, has be seen to significantly reduce accidental falls.
A Small Business Adaptation Grant of £3,456 awarded by Derbyshire Dales District Council has been used to significantly improve the software within Bide. Several key areas had been identified where the product could be improved - including the recording sound quality and also some simple features to assist the setup process. With the help of a specialised product design consultancy these improvements have now been made.
Rob Eavis (Director) says:
This support from Derbyshire Dales District Council has been brilliantly timed for us. Our recent feedback from trialling Bide has given us some fantastic ideas on how to improve our product and therefore help to reduce more falls. This grant has helped us to implement these software features as quickly as possible.
